Technologies at Our Dental Clinic

At SouthWest Dental, the technology we use helps to inform treatment planning and make your dental appointments more efficient.

We are able to display digital x-rays and scans on the monitors in our treatment rooms, so that we can clearly show you any issues with your oral health and walk you through your recommended treatment plan.

Our goal is to provide patients with efficient dental care, and make sure that each and every patient is fully informed about their oral health. Dental technology helps us to achieve that goal.

Digital X-Rays

Digital X-rays use digital sensors to produce highly detailed computer images of your teeth and gums, as well as other oral structures and conditions. This technology allows your dentist and hygienist to examine parts of your mouth that are not visible to the naked eye, making it easier for our team to identify issues in those areas sooner.

Panoramic X-Rays

Panoramic X-rays allow your dentist to create a single image of your entire mouth. This image is a flat representation of the teeth, upper and lower jaws, temporomandibular joints (TMJ), and nasal and sinus structures. Panoramic X-rays are particularly useful in planning treatments for dentures, braces, implants and extractions.

Soft Tissue Lasers

Lasers can be used in a number of soft tissue procedures in dentistry. This technology allows our dentists to perform procedures with less pain and fewer medical interventions. At SouthWest Dental, our dentists typically use lasers for healing and repair purposes, from reshaping gums to treating periodontal disease, while reducing pain.

Oral Cancer Screening Device

The VELscope^® is an oral cancer screening device which can be used to help your dentist identify abnormalities and diseases in the mouth, such as cancerous and pre-cancerous lesions. Using fluorescence visualization technology, cancer screening can be performed in your dentist’s office during routine exams and under normal lighting conditions in about two minutes.

Cone Beam Cat Scan (3D X-rays)

Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a type of X-ray machine that provides high-resolution images of the jaws and teeth, including soft tissues and nerve paths, in a single scan. Images obtained with CBCT allow for more precise treatment planning because we can get a full, 3-dimensional picture of your dental structures.

Digital Dental Impressions

At SouthWest Dental, we use an intraoral scanner to take accurate, 3D impressions of your bite. Our intraoral scanner allows us to plan your dental treatment in real-time, store data digitally, and create Invisalign clear aligners - all without the use of messy dental impressions.
